My name is Cameron Shiflet, and I play guitar and sing in the band So Far Gone. I was born December 15, 1989 which makes me a Sagittarius. I grew up in San Diego where I have lived off of skateboarding, music, the beach and Mexican food for the past 20 something years. I like business minded people who are looking to pave their own way and that aren't afraid to stray from the beaten path. I love going new places and exploring all that is around me, even in thought. I love philosophy and like to explore perception. I am always a little late no matter how hard I try and my friends are never shy to let me know (Jeff). I hate structure and time constraints and like to be able to do whatever I want, when I want. I am very laid back and am always looking to have a good time, but when it comes to business I will make sure things get done. Overall, I just like to have fun and don't take life too seriously. Oh, and I hate Jeff.
I first met Jeff in my fourth grade class at Miramar Ranch Elementary School. I didn’t like him. He was a loser. We weren’t friends. We discovered that we lived near each other and began hanging out, although we didn’t become close until the eighth grade. However, in that short period of time, we still managed to get into two fist-fights, almost host an illegal bike race, get in trouble for defacing his complex, and have Jeff send me to the emergency room because he stabbed me in the eye with a stick.
In the eighth grade I began playing guitar and immediately fell in love. I told Jeff that we were starting a band. I then devoted myself entirely to writing and playing music. We began practicing in Jeff’s room and formed our first band. We played our first show under the name Vacancy 69 (Open For Oral) a few months later. I met Sam in my math class my Senior year of High School, where we spent the entire year drawing pictures of aliens and monsters fighting and tearing down cities. After graduating, Jeff and I decided to end our current band to start a new one. We auditioned Joey Mann on bass and never looked back. That band became So Far Gone. After Joey passed away, Jeff and I grieved for a long time. Joey had become a best friend. We eventually realized that we couldn’t quit; music was as much his life as it is ours. Since that day we have vowed to honor him through our music. He is the heart behind our band. Everything we do, we do for him.
My name is Sam Spofford, and I play bass in So Far Gone. I was born in San Diego, California in the Sharp Hospital that was torn down in 96. It was September 23, 1991 and a great day to be alive. My first clear memories are of running up and down the North County Soccer Park indoor soccer fields when I was 3 years old. I went to Jerebek Elementary School then graduated to Marshall Middle School and became student body president in 2005. After my reign of terror ended, I became a freshman at Scripps Ranch High School. I played soccer there and became a JV co-captain Sophomore year. It was during this year that I joined my first band, and picked up a bass for the first time. We ended up getting our first show through one of Cameron and Jeff’s previous bands and we all became good friends. We continued playing shows together, then distanced for awhile when their band broke up.
In the summer before my senior year of high school, I had heard that Cameron and Jeff had started a new band with my childhood friend, Joey Mann, as their bassist. The band was called So Far Gone. At the end of that summer, Joey passed away. By my senior year of high school, I had gained a lot of experience as a musician, and had realized that it was the only thing that I wanted to do. I also knew that my band would be breaking up because of college. That school year, my soccer team took the league championship title and my band began playing their last shows. After somewhere close to six months of grieving, I had heard that Cameron and Jeff had decided to keep the band alive in Joey’s honor, and that they had begun the sensitive task of auditioning bassists. I contacted them and got an audition. We clicked immediately and within a few days, I had become a member of So Far Gone. So Far Gone became my love and my curse. I live for the joy of laughter and new experiences.
Outside of the band, if I’m not with friends, you can find me skateboarding on Spruce Run in Scripps Ranch.
My name is Jeff Burg, and I was born in New Jersey on June 14th, 1990. I discovered my interest in drumming at a very young age. My family moved out to San Diego, California when I was only two and shortly after moving, my parents gave me my first drum kit. This sparked an interest that has thrived up to this day. At age ten, I began receiving drum lessons by a professional teacher to thoroughly learn about the instrument that I was falling in love with. By age thirteen, I began playing out with my friends. One of my best childhood friends, Cameron Shiflet, approached me when he was just picking up a guitar, telling me that he wanted to start a band. I had already been playing the drums with lessons for about four years, but I couldn’t resist the offer from my best friend. The two of us played together all throughout high school with numerous friends and random musicians, but the one constant was that we were always together.
After we graduated High School in 2008, the most significant band we ever established was born…So Far Gone!
Outside of music, I really love sports. I also had an obsession with the Titanic when I was young, which translated into a passion for sinking ships until I was about eleven. I also have the uncanny ability to remember birthdays. Whether you’re my best friend, mother, or a random celebrity that has never heard my name, chances are if I hear the date of your birthday, I won’t forget it. Playing drums is my passion, and making So Far Gone succeed is my goal. The end.
